SPM Math 2015 Paper 1 Answers

Paper 1 Mathematics SPM 2015 this year is considered quite difficult as you might need to have good thinking skills and patience. Capable students will find it challenging but less capable students will find it hard to score. All the best and good luck for your future papers.

  1. 32 is C

    n(P ∩ Q ∩ R) = n(P) +n(Q) + n(R) - n(P ∩ Q) - n(P ∩ R) - n(Q ∩ R) + n(P ∩ Q ∩ R)

    Hence, newspaper P only is n(P) - n(P ∩ Q) - n(P ∩ R) + n(P ∩ Q ∩ R)

    2. Totally C, 100%. First off, when they mentioned those who bought P, P(P) u automatically judge that a portion of those ppl bought nsp Q, R or both. Then the later, when they mentioned those who bought nsp P and Q, if u studied deeply enough, it is understood that in that crowd, some of them bought P and Q only, P(P∩Q∩R*), and some of them bought P, Q and R, P(P∩Q∩R). You have to take this into account, noticing that they didn't mention the word 'only', which if present implies an intersection with the region R*. Well, enough, u did not exclude any others when they first mentioned those who bought P, but now, u instead exclude R out of the set P∩Q. That is awfully not right as it would mean u r using two logics and they both contradict each other. Standard probability rules states in this case u CANNOT exclude R. You definitely cant say that if a person buys nsp P, Q and R, they are not considered buying P and Q and they would subsequently be excepted from that set. Truly, u see how ur own logic outplayed you. If u decide to continue using ur logic here, it would turn into a case as such if imposed on banking statistics. Every person has three accounts. There will be a loyalty reward for those who have $1000 in the first account and $5000 in their second account. Well enough, you have $1000 in ur first, $5000 in ur second and $500 in ur third. Tell me, will u be excluded from those who have $1000 and $5000 for the accounts respectively.
