SPM 2014 Chemistry Paper 1 Answers Revealed

The paper 1 questions are very up to standard and a good distribution of difficulty of question. Very challenging questions are about 20% of the whole paper.

Here are some questions for review

Q8. Students must have memorised clearly all the type of glass and usage.

Q18. Detergent is Petroleum and Soap is Palm oil. Must be careful with this one

Q33. The answers D... answer C is incorrect because the word 'volatile', solid are seldom volatile

Q34. Test students with you know clearly the concept of amphoteric oxide, which can react with both acid and alkali. Many students would think of test salt instead.

Q40. They are asking only for heat released. So do not need to divide by no of moles.

Q47. With more practice you should be able to identify sulphuric acid has twice the amount of H+ ions.

Hope you Paper 2 and Paper 3 did well :)

  1. Sir. I think no 44 You got it wrong. My school teacher also give me the same answer with B. The question said mass of oxygen in carbon dioxide. so it mean mass of 1 oxygen right? hm If Im still wrong please explain it .

    1. 44 is correct coz the oxygen is O2 :) I think.

    2. 44 is D.Because 2mol of CO2 produce 4 mol of oxygen.So,16x4=64

    3. I'm pretty sure the answer is D

  2. why is 35 C? shouldnt it be B? tat is the only question i got wrong :( if not 50/50 d :(

    1. Right? I put B as well.

    2. You don't determine the size by proton number ... You must check their electron arrangement .. More shells filled with electron ,means its bigger ... If it have the same number of shells filled with electron , check the total proton number .. If it have more proton number , it will be smaller ... Ex: 2.8.1 is bigger than 2.1 ... Ex 2 : 2.1 is bigger than 2.2

    3. Yeah , same here !

    4. the more the proton number, the smaller the size, because of stronger nucleus. but more shell is still bigger than less shell. therefore, C is correct.
      too bad i only got 46 :(

  3. Kinda bad tho. 22/50 :/

  4. My Paper 2 was not that good as well. Paper 3 was fine except for the experiment.

  6. Q50? Why is it C? Shouldn't it be B? The positive terminal is Copper right? And it's a voltaic cell, so the concentration of electrolyte doesn't affect the products? If I'm not mistaken...

    1. The copper is the positive electrode , that's true ... But in voltaic cell , it's not the positive electrode that receive the electron , but the positive ion in the electrolyte , in this case the hydrogen ion ...

    2. But in voltaic cells, products formed at electrodes are not influenced by the ions in electrolyte, they are influenced by elctrodes " it's not the positive electrode that receive the electron , but the positive ion in the electrolyte" That's true I guess, for electrolytic cell.So in this case, shouldn't the half-equation be: Cu2+ + 2e > Cu ?

    3. For the one above, where do you get the Cu2+ from?? The cations in the electrolyte are only H+, the are no presence of Cu2+.

    1. I only got 42/50 for paper 1 ,the best I can get for paper 2 is probably only around 70 because I made huge mistake on section C , and paper 3 I only hentam on the experiment ... Really worried right now ...

  8. 36/50. any chance to get A? :\
paper 2 was so-so and paper 3 was okay.

  9. guys wat about number 50 why C

    1. the only cation present in the electrolyte is hydrogen ion. therefore, ofc hydrogen ion will be discharged.

  10. i got 34 only for paper1. can i get A?

  11. Why 50 c? it is '0.1mol' . It is mean concentrated, not dilute rite?

  12. 42/50 35sure C?!

  13. P3 essay I use hexane and hexene without mentioning hydrocarbon X and Y , isit ok?

  14. Is there any chance in getting an A- atleast with 31/50? :/

    1. Why number 37 is c? Argentum is less electropositive than ferum. It couldn't save the iron from rusting.

      Delete
    2. I think 37 is A

      Delete
    3. dont u think argentum can faster the ferum to rust ?

      Delete
    4. No..because Silver speed up rusting..copper can speed up rusting so the answer should b A...pls check.. :'(

      Delete
    5. Ag as in silver, not argentum.
I think the answer is A because there's no oxygen in oil,so i guess rusting doesn't occur?

      Delete
    6. Argentum is less electropositive. So it is less reactive. Won't corrode
